Genex Services, LLC, a leading managed care provider for insurance companies, employers, and third-party administrators, recently disclosed a serious data breach that may have compromised sensitive personal information. This cybersecurity incident was the result of a phishing attack targeting employee devices.

What Happened?

On February 25, 2025, Genex detected suspicious activity within its IT network. The company responded immediately by securing its systems, launching an internal investigation, and engaging third-party cybersecurity experts to assess the situation. Genex also notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as part of its incident response plan.

The investigation confirmed that two employee laptops were compromised due to a phishing email, granting unauthorized access to files containing personally identifiable information (PII). Genex then initiated a full data review to determine which individuals were impacted. That review has concluded, and Genex is now notifying affected individuals.

What Information was taken?

  • Name
  • Address
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Financial information (such as account numbers or credit/debit card numbers)
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance information
  • Date of birth

How Genex Responded

  • Secured all affected systems and devices.

  • Initiated an internal and external forensic investigation.

  • Notified federal law enforcement agencies.

  • Retained Kroll, a global leader in identity risk management, to offer 24 months of free identity monitoring services to impacted individuals.
